Hose End Sprayer:

Set sprayer dial to 2 - 4 oz. per gallon of water, depending your application and follow label instructions for frequency of spraying. Some sprayers use Tablespoon (Tbsp) nstead of Ounces (Oz). Note: 1 Tbsp = .5 Oz.

Hose End Sprayer Helpful Hints:

Quality hose end sprayers will be equipped with a brass mixing valve and a dial adjustment (usually on top near the handle) for mixing a specific amount of concentrate with water as the mixture is dispersed from the spray head. These type of hose end sprayers will allow you to pour the concentrate into the holding container on the sprayer, set the dial for the desired mix rate and then spray the desired area or plants. If any concentrate is left over, you can pour the remaining concentrate back into the original container or keep the concentrate in the hose end sprayer container for the next application.

Some hose end sprayers mix the concentrate with water in the container before dispersing it through the spray head. These types of hose end sprayers are not recommended for us with this product. Determine which type of hose end sprayer you have before using it with this product.

Most quality hose end sprayers will disperse about 1 gallon per minute of mixture from the spray head. This measure is a helpful guide, but may not apply to your specific hose end sprayer. Consult the instructions or owner's manual for your specific hose end sprayer.

Foliar feeding has been used since 1844 when it was discovered that plant nutrients could be leached from leaves by rain. Experiments then proved that nutrients could also enter the plant through the foliage.

There are ways of stimulating the natural processes in the soil and in the plants by spraying the foliage which can provide some significant advantages. When fertilizer nutrients are sprayed directly on the foliage, immediate results can often be seen because the nutrients and micronutrients are immediately available to the plant when taken in through the foliage.

Important Information for Foliar Spraying

  1. Less is usually better in foliar sprays. Light, regularly applied sprays are generally  better than heavy, infrequent blasts. Mists of liquids are better than big drops, unless you are also trying to control pests. The exception is spraying heavy enough to get the material to run off plants and also drench into the soil.

  2. High humidity increases leaf ability to absorb sprays (70% + relative humidity) . Spraying on damp mornings (before 9 am) or evenings (after 6 pm) will increase the effectiveness of the spray. Small openings (stomata) on the leaves close up during the heat of the day so that moisture within the plant is preserved. The best time of day to spray for pest control is late afternoon. Daybreak is usually best for foliar feeding.  Spraying during the coolest part of the day is the key (65 to 85° - 70° is a good overall temp). Spraying during a light, misty type rain is ideal. Spray when the wind speed is 5 mph or less.

  3. Young foliage seems to absorb nutrients better than old, hard foliage. Therefore, foliar feeding is most effective during the periods of new growth on plants.

  4. Foliar feeding will increase the storage life of food crops. It will also increase cold and heat tolerance of landscape plants and food crops.

  5. Foliar feeding should not be used alone. Soil feeding is also needed to keep the roots from getting lazy.

  6. It's a highly efficient and timely method of applying needed and critical plant nutrients.

  7. Very effective in compensating for soil or environmentally caused nutrient deficiencies.

  8. Should be timed to provide needed nutrients during the yield potential determining timeframe of the each plant's development stages.

  9. Crops that are nutritionally sound will be the most responsive to foliar feeding.

  10. Crops under heat or moisture stress show less response to foliar applications due to lower leaf and and stem absorption rates.

  11. Recovery from cold growing conditions and herbicide stress can be hastened with proper foliar applications.

This is the application of the same foliar spray mixes into the soil. This is an especially effective technique when applying beneficial organisms, such as mycorrhizal fungi, which require contact with roots to activate.
